Strawberry Banana Dog Treats!

While I am more of a cat person, I have someone special in my life that is a dog lover. When it comes down to it, however, I will spoil any animal. What better way to do it than with a tasty homemade baked treat??

I went ahead and bought some silicone molds from amazon. I bought a set in which one had dog bone shapes and the other paw prints. They’re so cute and bite sized. So DARLING.

Anyhow, we all know that a dog’s weakness is peanut butter. Nearly any treat recipe you find contains peanut butter. What I didn’t know is that there are certain kinds of peanut butter dogs should avoid. For a general FYI, a sweetener called xylitol is toxic to dogs. Brands to stay away from are:

  • Go Nuts, Co.
  • Krush Nutrition
  • Nuts ‘N More
  • P28
  • No Cow

Not that I have personally heard of them before, because I tend to stick to your typical GIF of Skippy. Which are perfectly okay for your pooch.

As far as strawberries go, this can be optional. Strawberries have vitamins and minerals that are awesome for dogs. However, they should be consumed in moderation to prevent stomach aches.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 mashed banana
  • 4-5 finely diced strawberries

Set oven to 300 degrees. Combine all ingredients. Add more flour if it’s too sticky.

On a floured surface, roll out mixture and cut into shapes with cookie cutters or  treat molds.

Bake for 20-25 minutes.

Simple, quick, and shareable! For storage, you can refridgerate or freeze the treats and take them out as needed.

I’ll be keeping my eye out for other treat suggestions and variations, even frozen treats for the summer time.

What’s your best friend’s favorite??
